R.E.M had it right, because I feel fine…

How, do I feel fine ?

  • Not suffering from withdrawal from the termination of sports (never watched them except for the occasional minor league game)
  • Haven’t had a drink in at least 7 years. Bars and State Stores close excising temptation.
  • Rarely go to the movies because of all the rude behaviour.
  • stopped eating out locally (reserved for vacations) rejoined WW and lost 11 lbs.
  • Rarely socialize (spend more time blogging and chatting with friends and family)
  • Like a lot of old tv and movies, still a lot I haven’t seen. Even if new shows go dark, I can deal.
  • don’t have cable…i rent dvd’s thru netflix and selectively watch things on hulu
  • have friends and family willing to offer us the hot commodity called toilet paper, for free.
  • although it scares me that my wife, as a caregiver, is vulnerable, she’s young with no underlying problems to have it bad if she gets it. I have allergies but nothing too extreme.
  • I’m not glued to the news which is usually all negative in non covid-19 times as well.
  • I honestly feel like a vessel for a beacon of hope from God (this coming from a guy who’s not very religious). Like my calling in life is meant to be many peoples rock, in what I offer in conversation and through my art on my blogs. A diversion of sorts. It’s really hard to explain. But a month ago my anxiety rode high when someone said the world would end because a meteor was going to obliterate the earth. But Now, we have a very real global health crisis and I feel fine.
  • It feels like it felt after I got married, surreal.
  • I am in survival mode I guess, having come to terms with the new normal.
  • Every day is just one step at a time.

  1. I recently read a book about anxiety and apparently it’s been found that when anxious people are confronted with actual, real danger (like being in a war zone), their anxiety goes away (not for everyone, but for many). It’s like our brains don’t know what to do when things are too quiet. I’m still as anxious as usual, although I have moments of calm. It’s hard to know how worried to be, so I’m erring on the side of caution. Stay safe.

    1. It didn’t entirely go away. I’m just more calm than normal. It could be because my wife’s bipolar head is never calm despite meds and therapy even in normal times that I need to be her anchor a bit more than usual.
