The Life & Times of Lil’ Dana Myttis Hedrew (Vacations)…

me050Dear Diary: Dana here, What can I say about vacations ? My family almost never goes on any. I mean, there is an amusement park in our town, but usually Gram takes me & my brother. We did go to the Jersey shore once in 1978. See, let me back track. My Mom likes scary movies and in 1976 the family went to see this movie called Jaws, is it any wonder why we only went to the shore ONE time !

Don’t get me wrong when we went it was cool, riding the waves while holding on to both Mom & Dad’s hands. Buying this really cool purple felt cat with plastic red ruby eyes as a souvenir and almost going into Dracula’s castle. But even Mom & Dad both chickened out. So as a family we did King Kong the ride, it was part ride part haunted house and when we exited we came out of King Kong’s mouth. It was cool. So that vacation was actually cool.

But for the Most Part My family likes to go to the races at Penn National Raceway. Not those boring car races. But the horse races. Both my parents like to, as they say “play the ponies”, sometimes they win most times they don’t. We go in style, we usually watch the races from the restaurant indoors. Or my parents do, my brother and I just walk around and people watch. Sometimes Mom  and/or Dad let’s us pick a horse too. Anyways, this racetrack is near Hershey Park. My brother and I never went to Hershey but my Dad suggested that we go. My brother & I got real excited. The next day we drove and parked on a street near this track in the sky. It looked pretty cool. Then this flying train went by, Dad said it was called the monorail. Then we headed home. Like, really really 😦

You want a photo of me showing how enthused I was for this trip to see the monorail at Hershey Park ? The Epitome of sarcasm at 8 years old.

Well, till another day Diary
